A morning with George

Early in the day often brings the best colors. The dawn today was orange and blue, reminscent of the painting over our living room fireplace. Nearly 10 years ago, I met George Raab, a printmaker from Ontario, with his special talent of producing intaglio etchings on large plates and coloring the result, the original design from photographs George took throughout his travels in the natural world. Ours -- this one, anyway -- is woods in winter, the dawn light filtering through in identical colors to the morning's light. Wally and I sat to watch the dawn emerge, the lights on the clouds moving from deep purple blue-grey through orange to peach. Five minutes with George, a magnificent holiday season morning.
